Carmen Olmo La Fontaine

Biography

Dr. Carmen Olmo has been an educator for more than 35 years and has been teaching mathematics at Saint John's School since 1997. She has also taught at W.E. Greiner Middle School in Dallas, TX, at Academia San Jorge in San Juan, PR, and at the University of Puerto Rico. Carmen is currently the Data Implementation Specialist at her school. She facilitates data meetings and professional development focused on using data to improve teaching and learning. She collaborates with principals to review assessment data. She analyzes the effectiveness of classroom assessment tools and works with the Dean of Academics to revise and align curricula. Carmen has taught mathematics courses ranging from arithmetic to precalculus and has also taught music classes. Her passion for teaching mathematics has motivated and engaged her students in the learning process through projects, songs, and self-created videos. She has also taught education courses at the university level. Carmen has served on curriculum design and strategic planning teams and has also served as part of the research team to find a new mathematics curriculum for the school. She has facilitated and attended various professional development activities. Carmen sings in choirs through which she has represented Puerto Rico in competitions and festivals in Europe, Canada, and the US. She has also been a choir director in two schools and has also participated in multiple virtual choirs. Carmen has a B.A. in mathematics education from the University of Puerto Rico and an M.A. in administration and supervision of schools from University of Phoenix, Guaynabo. She has an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. She is a certified mathematics teacher and curriculum specialist.
