Dr. Stacy (McCormack) Hootman began her teaching career in Indiana as a high school chemistry and physics teacher where she was recognized as a 2010 Armstrong Teacher Educator, 2011 PAEMST awardee, 2011 American Association of Physics Teachers Zitzewitz Awardee for Precollege Physics Teaching, and 2011 Indiana State Teacher of the Year. In 2016, Stacy transitioned to the University of Indianapolis where she is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Earth Space Science. Working with non-science majors and preservice teachers is her passion, and Stacy has extensive conference presentation experience in science education. Stacy earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in secondary chemistry education and her master’s degree in physics education from Ball State University. She holds a second master’s degree in instructional systems technology and completed a Ph.D. in curriculum & instruction with a focus in science education, both from Indiana University. In the summer of 2006, Stacy spent three weeks in Geneva, Switzerland at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) as a United States Representative at the High School Teachers conference sponsored through the Quarknet program at the University of Notre Dame and University of Michigan. Stacy became a distance educator for Ivy Tech Community College in the fall of 2005 and currently teaches online astronomy, physics, and physical science. Stacy is also the author of Teacher Friendly Physics, a book that helps other teachers create inexpensive guided inquiry lab-based experiences with physics. Stacy has recently served in leadership roles for the National Science Teaching Association and the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Incorporated.
