Biography

Mary “Mary Anne” McMahon has taught high school mathematics for 24 years. She currently teaches at Jefferson High School, having spent two years at Helena High School and 21 years at Bozeman High School. During her teaching career, Mary has taught numerous dual credit courses and Advanced Placement Calculus (AB and BC). For three years, she also taught evening mathematics courses at Montana State University. As a mathematics teacher, Mary has taught all levels of algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, and calculus. She currently teaches Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, College Algebra, Trades Math, and Contemporary Math. Mary thrives on helping students of all abilities build confidence in mathematical skills. She maintains a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, helping each other, and participating in discussions. Mary uses a wide variety of teaching techniques including hands-on activities, real-life applications, and online learning platforms. Mary has also performed data analysis and assisted colleagues in differentiating instruction to improve student progress. Mary has been involved in many continued learning projects throughout MT to implement Common Core State Mathematics Standards and become a teacher leader. She also presented a session at a MT Math Conference to inform colleagues of strategies that she uses to assist students in filling skills gaps. Mary earned a B.A. in mathematics education with a minor in Spanish from Carroll College and an M.S. in secondary mathematics education from Montana State University. She has received numerous awards as a Distinguished School Educator. Mary is currently completing the Teacher Leadership Institute for MT. Mary is certified to teach secondary mathematics and Spanish.
