Sara Rubio has been an educator for more than 16 years, primarily teaching middle school mathematics. She began her career teaching STEM at Madison Middle School and is currently teaching seventh-grade mathematics and sixth-grade Math Empowerment at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School. Sara is passionate about helping students see their potential in mathematics and works relentlessly to accomplish that goal. She is a strong advocate for professional learning communities, including facilitating groups of educators to continuously examine student work, reflect on student understanding, and refine instruction using research-based, innovative practices. Sara consistently emerges as a teacher leader. From math department head to instructional council chair to family engagement co-design lead, she regularly steps up to support educators in advancing the school’s vision and mission. Additionally, she has facilitated professional development at the district level and presented at regional math conferences. Sara’s love of teaching extends beyond the classroom. She has led an after-school dance and cheer program that she started during her first year of teaching. She eagerly attends student athletic games and music concerts. Deeply immersed in her school community, she believes that, whatever the problem, community is the answer. Sara holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in mathematics from Seattle University and a Master’s in Teaching, cum laude, from the University of Washington. She is certified in secondary mathematics and is a National Board Certified Teacher.
