What motivates you to contribute to excellence in STEM teaching?

I love math. I want students to be able to find joy in the challenge and struggles. I want students to find success in their hard work. Our students need more experiences of doing hard things, working together, communicating, and solving problems. STEM is one way students can receive those expereinces.

What has been the most transformative moment that affirmed your impact on STEM education?

I am lucky enough to see fellow students often. When former students come up to me and tell me what they are doing now in STEM fields or how math was so easy for them after the foundation they received in my class, these moments reaffirm my impact on STEM education.

Using your platform as a Presidential Awardee, how do you hope to advance our nation in STEM?

I hope to be able to present workshops for more math teachers to encourage them to get students to think deeper, collaborate, and become more engaged in their learning.
