What motivates you to contribute to excellence in STEM teaching?

Seeing the enthusiasm of students as they realize opportunities that had not considered previously.

What has been the most transformative moment that affirmed your impact on STEM education?

Being able to help other new teachers feel confidence in their ability to help students learn and do science.

Using your platform as a Presidential Awardee, how do you hope to advance our nation in STEM?

Continue sharing my enthusiasm and need for growth as a way to motivate and engage students.

Biography

I have taught at the same Junior High school for 30 years now. During this time, I also served as my district's science specialist for six years (after school hours.) I was the web developer and designer for Utah's "Sci-be Text" - the first global open education resource. I served on Utah's Science Teaching Association board for 10 years. I serve teachers as a Professional Learning Community coach as well as an Instructional Coach. For 16 years, I was involved in the Intel Teach® training program - spending 11 years as a senior trainer. I have been recognized with several awards beyond the PAEMST. These include: Alpine District Accent on Excellence, UtSTA Dick Peterson Lifetime Achievement, UtSTA Outstanding Science Department, Utah Governor's Award for Science and Technology, Alpine District Teacher of the Year, and the Milken Family Foundation Award,
