Marianne Strayton

Biography

Marianne Strayton has been an educator for over 21 years. For five years, she has served as a kindergarten through fifth grade mathematics specialist at Woodglen Elementary after joining the team in 2010. She previously spent two years as a district mathematics and science coordinator, six years at Lakewood Elementary, and four years splitting her time between Lakewood and Woodglen. Marianne is a senior curriculum developer for Eureka Math. She was a lead writer on the EngageNY modules and continues to develop curricula that connects student experiences with the natural integration of mathematics. Her work has been published in various journals and her recent publication was listed in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development’s Ten Best Articles of 2017. Marianne is a regular presenter at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Conference and at regional events. She is president and vice president of her local and state mathematics organizations, respectively. Marianne earned a B.A., summa cum laude, in psychology and elementary education from Saint Michael's College; a B.S., summa cum laude, in elementary education with a focus on STEM education from Iona College; and an Ed.D. in curriculum and teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is certified in elementary education, school district administration, and gifted education.
