Joseph Mancino Glastonbury, CT | 7-12, Science, 2023

Joseph “Joe” Mancino has been teaching physics since 2005 and has spent the last five years at Glastonbury High School. He previously taught at Windsor High School for 14 years. Over the last nine years, Joe has also facilitated workshops for hundreds of physics teachers as a consultant with the College Board. With water balloons, T-shirt launchers, lasers, and Jell-O, Joe tries to show students and teachers that a good physics class has lots of laughter, conversation, cheering, and dancing. He demonstrates that doing science well requires curiosity, humility, and, above all, a sense of humor. Joe has served as a mentor teacher for student teachers, Lead Consultant for Advanced Placement Physics teachers, Lead Teacher for student-facing review materials, and Question Leader at the annual AP Physics reading. He served seven years on the AP Physics 1 Development Committee with four years as its co-chair. Joe earned his B.S. in physics and master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut. He is a certified physics teacher.
