The official biography below was current at the time of the award.

Nancy Rogers has been an educator for more than 30 years with the last five years teaching military-connected students at Rota Middle High School where she has taught seven different courses ranging from seventh grade mathematics through Advanced Placement Statistics. She previously worked as an instructional systems specialist of 6-12 mathematics for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Americas Southeast District for four years. Prior to joining DoDEA, Nancy taught eighth grade mathematics for one year at Lansing Middle School. She also taught high school mathematics for the Archdioceses of Kansas City, including six years at her alma mater, Bishop Ward High School, and 15 years at Hayden High School. Nancy’s enthusiasm for mathematics and creative problem solving are evident in her instruction where she encourages students to think critically, work collaboratively, and explain their thinking. Using a Building Thinking Classroom model and rich tasks, she keeps students engaged and asking questions. In addition to serving her school as the Mathematics Department Chair, Nancy leads focused collaboration for her district’s Algebra 2 teachers. She is also the Data Lead for the school’s Continuous School Improvement team. Through these interactions, she works to ensure student improvement is at the heart of instruction beyond her own classroom. Nancy has a B.A. in mathematics from Benedictine College and an M.A. in teaching: curriculum and instruction from University of St. Mary. She is certified in middle and high school mathematics and high school computer science.
