This award isn't just about me, it's a testament to my students' dedication, curiosity, and achievements. Brian Schwartz Hyde Park, VT | 7-12, Mathematics, 2023

Brian Schwartz has been an educator for almost 20 years and has spent the last 16 years teaching 10th grade mathematics, science, engineering, and technology at the Green Mountain Technology and Career Center. He previously taught computer technology and design at Berkshire High School for his first four years as a teacher. Brian is a dedicated and innovative educator. He believes that students learn best by actively engaging with the material and constructing their own understanding through exploration and experimentation. In his classroom, theories are not just taught; they are experienced. Brian combines his technical expertise with a deep passion for teaching. He specializes in technology and engineering education, bringing complex concepts to life through hands-on, experiential learning. This approach is evident in his projects, such as using VEX robotics to teach coding, mechanical principles, and the physics of kinematics and forces. Through these projects, students build, test, and refine their designs, applying mathematical and scientific principles in a tangible, meaningful way. Beyond his technical prowess, Brian is known for his ability to connect with students and foster a supportive and collaborative learning environment. He encourages critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork, preparing his students not only for academic success but for real-world problem solving. His commitment to education extends outside the classroom as well, where he mentors students and organizes community events. Brian has a B.S. in K-12 technology education, an M.A. in new media art and design, and an M.S.T. in mathematics education. He is certified in K-12 technology education and high school mathematics. Brian is currently teaching an Engineering Design program.
