This recognition belongs to my supportive family, dedicated colleagues, and incredible students. It is a privilege to be part of such an inspiring community and this award is a tribute to everyone in my life. I am grateful and will continue striving to make a positive impact on my students.

Leigha Jordan has dedicated 16 years to educating students in Buncombe County Schools, currently teaching 8th grade Math and Math 1 at Valley Springs Middle School. From 2017 to 2021, she served as a middle school mathematics coach before returning full-time to the classroom. Leigha began her career teaching fourth grade mathematics in Guilford County, then taught fourth grade in Macon County, followed by seventh and eighth grade mathematics in Alamance County. Building relationships is at the core of her teaching philosophy, as she strives to engage and support students in mathematics. Leigha fosters an environment where reasoning, communication, and every student's voice are valued, creating a community of learners aiming to reach their full potential. Beyond her classroom, Leigha is a liaison for student teachers and beginning teachers in her county. She actively participates in the county Math Leadership Team and Curriculum Revision Team. She also contributed to the State Standard Revision Team and serves on Valley Springs' School Improvement Team. Leigha's commitment to mathematics education is highlighted by her role as a participant and presenter at the North Carolina Council for Teachers of Mathematics conference, where she presented “Cultivating Conversation for All,” focusing on engaging students in rich mathematical discourse. Leigha was honored as Buncombe County Schools' Secondary Math Teacher of the Year and has been Valley Springs' Teacher of the Year as well. Leigha has a B.S. in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is certified in elementary education and middle grades mathematics. Her career reflects her passion for mathematics education and commitment to fostering academic and personal growth in her students.
