The Presidential Award serves as a beginning and is a pinnacle of my teaching tenure. It marks a new chapter in a continuing duty to elevate and advocate for education, its importance, the betterment of meeting the needs of stakeholders, and advancement of both traditional and progressive practices designed to enhance access, learning experiences, and student achievement. The award is a reminder that my commitment to lifelong learning has positively served students, colleagues, and communities.

Sandra Anne Swiechowicz has instructed mathematics for 14 years and computer science (CS) for seven, teaching 9th-12th grade students for 16 years at Raymond High School (RHS). Previously, she taught for three years at Londonderry High School, one year at Pembroke Academy, and one year at Fitch Senior High School. Sandra is a leader and innovator when it comes to making mathematics and CS concepts accessible and concrete. She has served on a multitude of local and state commissions aimed at enhancing student experiences through data-based decision making, student voice and choice, and performance assessments. When redesigning RHS’s CS program, she introduced Computer Aided Design, Game Development, Robotics and Advanced Placement CS Principles courses. Cybersecurity topics and ethical dilemmas regarding technology are present in all Sandra’s courses. This focus on individualized instruction and equity in CS and being a trusted adult led to a WZID teacher of the month award and Code.org’s Female Diversity Award. Sandra's tenure includes team lead for mathematics and freshman academies as well as grant coordinator and team member for the Investing in Innovation (i3) grant. Extending beyond the classroom, Sandra presents workshops in technology and mathematics, works as a mentor for teachers, and advises students in clubs and activities. She has served on accreditation review boards through the New England Association of School and Colleges and the New Hampshire Department of Education. Sandra has a dual B.S. in mathematics and secondary education from Roger Williams University and an M.A. in education specializing in curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix. She is certified in secondary mathematics prealgebra through calculus and as a digital specialist.
