As the son of Vietnamese immigrants, the Presidential Award not only affirms what I do to support students but also validates the sacrifices my parents made coming to this country. The award recognizes the love and support I receive from my wife, family, and friends. As the first person in the state with Asian heritage to win this award, I am grateful to serve as a mirror for all students who look like me. I am excited to use this opportunity to further disrupt the status quo in education.

In an effort to help diversify the teaching pipeline, David established the Look Like Me Scholarship to remove financial barriers and provide mentorship to students of color pursuing a career in education. David has presented sessions at local, state, and national levels on diversity, equity, and inclusion; PBL; mathematical technologies; and artificial intelligence. David earned a B.S. in mathematics with a concentration in statistics and an M.A. in secondary mathematics education from The University of Alabama.
