Katheryn Kennedy has been an educator across the K-16 spectrum for 29 years. Katheryn is currently the Science Department Chair at The Peck School after serving as the science and design teacher for kindergarten through fourth grade for four years. She previously taught middle school for five years at Orange Avenue School and began her teaching career as a biology teacher for four years at The Science Academy at Lyndon B. Johnson High School. She also taught biology at Union County College for four years and worked as a professional development provider and manager at the Center for Innovation in Science Education at Stevens Institute of Technology for eight years. Katheryn is passionate about helping her students develop their sense of curiosity and appreciate science in their lives. She works to ensure that science is presented in a meaningful context, creates a classroom culture that promotes engagement and discourse, and encourages scientific thinking that meets the needs of students. Katheryn is passionate about supporting the larger science community. She has served on the editorial review board of the Association for Science Teacher Education journal "Innovations in Science Teacher Education" and as an NSF review panel member. Katheryn has presented at state and national conferences, including the National Science Teaching Association and the American Society for Engineering Education. She is a co-author of the book “Engineering in the Life Sciences, 9-12” and has published in "Science & Children". Katheryn earned a B.S. in biology from Siena College, an M.S. in biomedical sciences from Baylor University, and a Ph.D. in education from Walden University. She is certified in secondary biology in New Jersey and in biology and chemistry in Texas.
