The Presidential Award is an incredible honor that reinforces the countless time and effort all educators put into their craft. It is a humbling recognition deserved not for me, but for the full collaborative network of the high achieving colleagues that surround me. This accolade provides me with confidence to continue partnering with phenomenal educators across the country, pursuing our belief that high quality STEM education is deserved for all.

Wade Kinsey Sheridan, WY | K-6, Mathematics, 2022

Wade Kinsey has taught third, fourth, and fifth graders in Sheridan County School District #2 for the past year. Previously, he taught fourth grade at Woodland Park Elementary School for seven years. The first year of his nine-year teaching tenure was spent teaching fourth grade at Cottonwood Plains Elementary School. As a classroom teacher with responsibilities in all subject areas, Wade has creatively integrated mathematics, science, and computer science concepts into all areas of the day. For several years, he utilized local mathematics and science experts to lead and assist with experiential learning and problem solving. These include engineers, doctors, hydrologists, soil scientists, programmers, surveyors, historians, and even artists to help make mathematical and scientific connections to the students' own community. At his previous school, Wade led a popular afterschool program, titled “Things That Fly”, giving students from third to fifth grade an opportunity to learn and experience physics with a plethora of hands-on explorations. Wade has led a variety of districtwide professional development sessions for elementary educators, focusing on mathematics instruction, student data collection, and analysis. He has also provided support as a mentor teacher and instructional coach to grade level teams across schools. Wade earned a B.S. in dietetics from Colorado State University and an M.A.T. in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado. He is certified in elementary education.
