An essential element of teaching is participating in a committed educational community focused on increasing all students' access, knowledge, and confidence. As a public educator, it is my duty to educate students with the best resources, pedagogy, and practice. I will continue to put students at the forefront so they see mathematics and STEM as a part of their pathway to successful futures. Kristin Hanley is an elementary mathematics teacher providing remediation services to students identified for intervention, kindergarten through grade five, at Lakewood Elementary School. Kristin also serves her district as an elementary curriculum specialist, focusing on curriculum and professional development. She has been in her current position since 2019. In her 25 years with the Clarkstown Central School District, Kristin has been an elementary teacher, a districtwide elementary mathematics specialist, and an enrichment teacher. Kristin demonstrates strong leadership in and outside the classroom and strives to promote educational equity. She has presented nationally and locally through the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics on the importance of visual models in mathematics and presents frequently throughout her district. She takes advantage of grant opportunities such as the recent New York State STEM grant which afforded her the opportunity to incorporate robotics into her intervention lessons. She is highly committed to working collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and students to support every child. Kristin is highly involved with reducing the overidentification of English Language Learner students as requiring mathematics support and works to cultivate learning environments that honor and affirm all students' mathematical experiences. Kristin earned a B.A. in philosophy and an M.S. in elementary education both from Fordham University. Kristin is certified in elementary education from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. She is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
