Shatara White began her teaching career in 2011 and has served as a first grade, seventh grade, fifth grade, and sixth grade teacher. She has taught reading, writing, social studies, and mathematics, but her passion resides in science. Currently, Shatara the Advanced Academic Specialist at Tomball Intermediate School (Tomball ISD), where she formerly taught as the gifted and talented specialist and as a sixth grade science TAP (Tomball Advanced Program) teacher since she began there in 2020. Shatara has also held the position of team leader for her sixth grade science team. She previously taught at Energized for Excellence Academy, Bammel Middle School, and Nitsch Elementary. In her capacity as an educator, Shatara works on several campus and districtwide teams. She is part of the Instructional Leaders Team (ILT), Leaders in Training Committee (LIT), District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC), and the District Administration Cohort. Due to her leadership at the campus and district level, she has been recognized as the Most Valuable Teacher, received multiple school district shout-outs, and was named the Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. Shatara is an alumna of Prairie View A&M University, where she received her B.S in criminal justice, cum laude, in 2010 and M.Ed. in educational administration, summa cum laude, in 2016. She is certified as a generalist in fourth through eighth grades and holds other certifications such as the English as a Second Language supplemental, K-12 principal certification, and the gifted and talented supplemental.
