Receiving this award is an incredible honor. It validates the years of hard work, dedication, learning, and growth as a mathematics educator throughout my career. Teaching young children to love mathematics and develop strong conceptual understanding is my greatest passion. Learning from and supporting other educators in this journey is what this award represents. I am humbled to receive this award among other inspiring educators and it will forever serve as a highlight in my career.

Megan Postak Munroe Falls, OH | K-6, Mathematics, 2022

Megan Postak has been an educator for 19 years and has spent the last 18 years teaching kindergarten at Riverview Elementary School. This past year she also served as the district's Title I Coordinator overseeing the Title I program. Megan's commitment to instilling a love of mathematics in her students and providing an environment that fosters high achievement reaches beyond her classroom. As the Kindergarten Grade Level Facilitator and Title I Coordinator for her district, she trains and supports all kindergarten teachers and mathematics tutors by providing high-quality professional development and learning opportunities for teachers. Incorporating innovative and hands-on experiences in her mathematics lessons allows the students to take ownership of their learning. Megan seeks strategies to bring these unique experiences to the students in her classroom and beyond. She received a grant to fund a Makerspace in her school, created cross-grade level STEM experiences in collaboration with a fourth-grade colleague, and was an afterschool STEM Club advisor. Megan has presented sessions on creating makerspaces in the classroom, remote learning strategies, and STEM challenges in the classroom at several local and state events. She also served as an Ohio Teacher Leader Liaison and ambassador for three years through the Ohio Department of Education, working alongside educators and administrators throughout the state of Ohio. She was the recipient of the Kent State Alumni Mentor Teacher of the Year Award in 2017. Megan earned a B.A. in early childhood education from Ohio University and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Kent State University. She is a certified early childhood teacher and is certified in early childhood curriculum.
