When one thinks of the Presidential Award, honor, respect, dedication, and passion come foremost to mind. This prestigious award validates the countless hours and hard work invested into my craft. Every day I strive to transfer the love for both learning and math into my students that my fourth grade teacher instilled in me. It is an honor to join such a distinguished group of educators, whom I can collaborate with to further my passion and pedagogical skills.
The official biography below was current at the time of the award.
Katelyinne “Kate” Green began her teaching journey 10 years ago. She is in her fifth year at Ella Lewis School and currently co-teaches first and second grade English Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies. Before that, she taught third through fifth grade for two years at the Peninsula School. Kate began her journey as an educational practitioner in second grade at Franklin Township Elementary School in 2015. Kate’s love of mathematics started in the fourth grade when her teacher instilled his love and passion for both learning and mathematics in his students. Whether it was long division, basic multiplication facts, or the simple addition of multi-digit numbers, he always made learning fun and meaningful. Kate regularly strives to instill this same love and passion for mathematics in her students, as well as students from kindergarten to fifth grade, whether it is teaching a whole class of students or providing interventions to those students who need extra support. Kate’s love and passion for mathematics are not only evident within her classroom, but extend throughout her school and district. Kate is routinely selected to lead professional development and mentor colleagues. Her professional expertise, especially in mathematics and literacy, is a shining beacon for those around her. Kate was recognized as the 2022 Teacher of the Year by her principal. She holds an A.S. in general studies, summa cum laude, from Allegany College of Maryland; a B.S. in early childhood and elementary education, summa cum laude, from Frostburg State University; and an M.Ed., summa cum laude, from Wilson College. She is certified to teach pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and holds certifications in the states of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Maine.
