With a more enriching education, we can develop STEM leaders in children who might have never seen themselves as mathematicians or scientists. The Presidential Award will help connect me with resources and a bigger network to reach more schools, teachers, and students with solutions to common issues in providing an enhanced STEM education in public schools.

Anne Paoletti Mullica Hill, NJ | 7-12, Mathematics, 2021

The official biography below was current at the time of the award.

Anne Paoletti has shared her love of mathematics as a public school educator for 22 years. For the past year, she has worked as an Algebra II & Trigonometry teacher at Haddon Heights Jr/Sr High School. Prior, she taught at Clearview Regional High School for 11 years, Susquehanna Valley High School for four years, and Watertown Middle School for seven years. Mentored by mathematicians and leaders in the field of curriculum development, Anne was on a mission to develop young students in ways that reflect how mathematicians work. This prompted her to author and teach a new elective for high schoolers, “Mathematics Research & Writing,” focusing on practices and non-routine problems that differ from her standard algebra courses. Her dedication to professional enrichment and networking is supported by continued involvement with mathematics communities such as Boston University’s Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists for Teachers and the Teacher Leadership Program of the Park City Mathematics Institute, an outreach program of the Institute for Advanced Study. Anne’s favorite experiences include Japanese Lesson Study, serving on the New Jersey Standards Review Math Sub-Committee and the Board of Directors for the Association of Math Teachers for New Jersey, participating in the Philadelphia Area Math Teacher Circle, coordinating weekend workshops and a teacher exchange program, and consulting on various projects. In her spare time, she volunteers as an admissions ambassador for Cornell University, meeting with high school seniors applying to Cornell. Anne graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in applied economics and business management. She received a master’s degree in mathematics for teaching from Boston University.
