As someone who always strives to do better, the Presidential Award reminds me that it is also okay to celebrate where I am today. It is an affirmation that I am doing everything I can for the benefit of my students.
The official biography below was current at the time of the award.
Claudia Troxel has been an educator for the past 10 years. She began her teaching career at Riverton High School (RHS), where she taught science for three years. This was followed by five years of teaching science at Lander Valley High School (LVHS). Claudia has been an instructor in biological and physical science at Central Wyoming College (CWC) for the past two years. At CWC, Claudia teaches freshman and sophomore General Biology and Intro to Chemistry. Both courses are lab based, with hands-on, STEM-based activities. Claudia also supports student research through an IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) grant. Claudia’s love of science is evident in the wide variation of courses she has taught, including Biology, Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science, three levels of chemistry including AP Chemistry, freshman Integrated Science, and Toxicology. With her broad background in science, Claudia brings the interconnectedness of the sciences and their real-world applications into her lessons and activities. Claudia sponsored a science club at RHS and LVHS, with both clubs placing at state science competitions. The science club at LVHS won the Regional Competition of National Science Bowl for two of the four years they competed. She is a member of the Wyoming Level Up Leadership Cohort and has presented at state conferences and participated in a state Science Assessment Team. Claudia earned a B.S in biochemistry and B.A. in German from the College of Charleston, followed by her Ph.D. in toxicology from Oregon State University. She then obtained her M.Ed. in curriculum design and instruction from Montana State University. She is certified in biology, chemistry, and fifth through eighth grade science.
