The Presidential Award process provided me a deep reflective validation regarding my career choices and experiences in the field of education. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with so many eager students in a variety of academic settings. I am truly grateful for the support of many excellent administrators and amazing mentors. The Presidential Award is a tremendous inspiration to me and my work serving all students.

Miles McGeehan Bozeman, MT | 7-12, Science, 2021

Miles McGeehan has been a public school educator for 20 years and has spent the last nine years at Bozeman High School, where he serves as the department leader and teaches 10th grade students in Advanced Placement Biology, Biology, and Chemistry. Prior to this, he served three years as a Technology Integration & Curriculum Specialist for the Bozeman School District, where he helped with the adoption of one-to-one devices in classrooms across town. Additionally, Miles supported the Eagle County School District with the startup of the Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy, which hallmarks as the country’s first public school supporting winter sport athletes. Before that, Miles taught middle school science for three years in Denver’s Cherry Creek School District. Miles found his passion for teaching while instructing within biology laboratories at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) during his undergraduate years. More recently, he moonlighted for seven years as an adjunct professor for Montana State University’s Department of Education. Miles' passions include communicating a love of science and developing innovative activities that appeal to adolescents. His curriculum is well-rounded and developed along storylines that inspire interest from diverse student backgrounds. Miles has presented sessions on educational technology integration at numerous local, state, and national conferences and published a related article in the journal Research Highlights in Technology and Teacher Education. Miles has a B.S. in biology and a B.S. in secondary science education, both from Penn State. He also holds an M.S. in science education and an Education Specialist degree in educational leadership from Montana State University. He is certified in broadfield secondary science education.
