The Presidential Award serves as validation of the countless hours of work and dedication towards improving myself and becoming the best teacher that I can be for my students. This award also serves as motivation to continue building a brighter future for the students whose life I get to positively influence as an educator. It is both the distinction of what has been done, and inspiration for the work ahead.
The official biography below was current at the time of the award.
Bradly Rivera Muñiz has worked at the Robinson School for the past seven years. He is currently the Elementary School Division Head. In addition to teaching 7th-12th grade mathematics, he has served as Vice-Principal of the Elementary School and Math Instructional Coach. He spent his first two years as an educator teaching 7th-12th grade at CIEM Private School. He has also been a mentor at the Arecibo Observatory for several years, where he has guided students in astronomy research experiences while applying mathematics and programming in the process. As Head of Elementary School at Robinson School, Bradly leads his faculty to provide opportunities for students to engage in learning experiences that promote critical-thinking and inspire them to become lifelong learners. As the STEM Program Lead in the same institution, he coaches and trains mathematics teachers in the K-12th grades, while also providing similar support to teachers in other STEM related disciplines. Guiding students to understand the value of mathematics is one of Bradly’s most important components of teaching. In his classroom, he involves students in research experiences where they apply mathematics to investigate, develop, and propose solutions to problems that affect their communities. While his classes are mostly problem-based, he creates spaces for students to experience the joy of doing pure mathematics through his mathematics competition teams. Bradly has earned a B.A. in secondary teaching of mathematics; a B.A. in mathematics; and an M.S. in mathematical sciences. He is currently completing his Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction of mathematics degree at the University of Puerto Rico.
