Brian Hanna just finished his 20th year of teaching, spending the last 17 at Newport High School. He primarily teaches Algebra II, International Baccalaureate (IB) Mathematical Studies, IB Mathematics Standard Level, and Physics. Brian uses his physics background to create opportunities for students to discover and explore practical applications of mathematical relationships. In addition, he allows students to investigate and mathematically analyze various topics, such as dance, food science, and horse racing, about which they themselves are passionate. He is enthusiastic about using technology to assist in this pursuit by incorporating data and video capture and analysis, and by using digital logic and programming. Currently, Brian leads the Mathematics Professional Learning Community in Lincoln County School District and serves on the Oregon State Mathematics Content Panel. Brian earned a B.S. in physics with a mathematics minor from Brigham Young University, an M.S. in physics, and an M.A.T. in science education from Oregon State University. He is a National Board Certified Teacher.
