Marc Pedersen has been a science teacher at Paulding County High School for the past 12 years where he has taught science content ranging from biology to chemistry, environmental science, and physics. Marc is currently teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry, AP Physics I, and Biotechnology Independent Research to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. From Marc’s firsthand experience in research spanning molecular biology, behavioral ecology, and wildlife conservation, he has provided his students with the opportunity to collaborate with professionals and post-secondary institutions on projects utilizing technology to investigate real problems within their own community. Marc encourages original research leading to publishable outcomes. Marc has received numerous grants and teaching awards, but he was most recently recognized nationally by the Biotechnology Institute. As the recipient of the 2016 BioGENEius Mentor Award, Marc was honored at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization International Convention in San Francisco. Marc has presented his pedagogical strategies and scientific research at conferences throughout the nation. Marc earned a B.S. in science education from Indiana University, a M.S. in biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an Ed.S. in teacher leadership from Piedmont College. He is certified to teach grades 6–12 science with a gifted and talented endorsement.
