Victoria (Vicky) Gorman has taught 7th grade Earth and Physical Science at Medford Memorial Middle School for the past eight years. She is also the founder and current coordinator of Memorial’s Citizen Science Education Program (CSEP). The Citizen Science program provides a unique opportunity for middle school students to apply their knowledge from the classroom to the real-world, while improving the scientific literacy of local citizens. Believing that science should drive science education, Vicky is very active in the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She earned the AMS K12 Distinguished Educator Award and is currently the AMS Chair of the Board on Outreach and Pre-College Education. Vicky also works with various NASA satellite education programs. Through these field campaigns, she brings alive the Earth’s systems for her students, using remote sensing, satellite imagery, and scientist collaboration. Vicky has conducted professional development at the local, state, and national levels, to include presentations at the National Science Foundation and the Wilson Center. She is currently working on a collaborative project to launch the American Council of STEM Educators. Vicky earned a B.S. in biology from Lafayette College, PA and is working towards a M.A. in education. She holds a kindergarten through 5th grade certification in elementary education and a middle school certification in science.
