I am proud and humbled to be honored with the Presidential Award.  This recognition motivates me to continue to work hard for my students, who work so hard for me.  I am grateful to my fellow teachers and administrators that have mentored, inspired, and encouraged me in my growth as a teacher.  It is a privilege to be mentioned in a group of so many distinguished teachers, whose professional efforts enhance the lives of the students they teach.  

Sarah Snyder Fairmont, WV | 7-12, Mathematics, 2015

Sarah Snyder has taught mathematics at Fairmont Senior High School for the past nine years. During her time there, she has served as the 9th Grade Math Field Day Coach, sponsor of the math honorary Mu Alpha Theta, and Faculty Senate Treasurer. Sarah’s instructional responsibilities incorporate a broad range of mathematics and a wide spectrum of students as she teaches freshmen in Math I STEM, juniors in Technical Readiness courses, and seniors in College Algebra and Trigonometry. Sarah has participated in the Marion County Summer Math Academy, which helps to remediate incoming freshman, since its inception. Along with creating units of instruction, she also teaches during the Academy. Sarah has developed and enriched her instructional knowledge and skills through participation in local, state, and national workshops and institutes. She was one of four teachers in West Virginia invited to present at the Southern Regional Educational Board Conference in the summer of 2014. Additionally, Sarah was invited to participate in the Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers Conference sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Sarah earned a B.A. in elementary education from Fairmont State University and a Master’s in secondary math education from West Virginia University. She is currently working toward her certificate in leadership studies.
