Receiving the Presidential Award represents a milestone in my career as an educator. I am humbled by this recognition. I am grateful to my mentor, my administrator, my colleagues, and my students who have encouraged and shaped me throughout my journey as a mathematics teacher. My passion has always been to help every student be a successful mathematician. I now also feel empowered to support other teachers in achieving this goal.

Agnes Post Tucson, AZ | K-6, Mathematics, 2020

Agnes “Agi” Post has been an educator for two decades. The 2020-2021 school year was her fourth year as a fourth grade teacher at Tucson Country Day School, where she now serves as the mathematics specialist. Her previous teaching experiences include teaching fourth graders at Copper View Elementary School for three years, teaching fifth and sixth grade at BASIS Tucson for seven years, being a Title 1 middle school mathematics teacher at the Arizona Virtual Academy for two years, and teaching fifth graders at Acacia Elementary for three years. Agi’s passion has always been helping kids enjoy mathematics and feel successful. Her motto for teaching is “experience before explanation”, and the emphasis of her lessons is conceptual understanding and sense-making. Agi has been a mathematics teacher leader with the IMPACTS program at the University of Arizona (UA)’s Center for Recruitment and Retention (CRR) of Mathematics Teachers for five years. Agi has led professional development sessions with the CRR at the UA, at her own school, and at various school sites locally. She presented sessions at the local Mathematics Educator Appreciation Day conference, at the state-level Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics Conference, and at the 2021 virtual National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference. As an IMPACTS teacher leader, Agi has also participated in a valuable mentorship program that shaped her vision and goals as a mathematics educator. Now she is able to mentor others and guide them to meaningful resources and understandings to ensure that all students get the most rewarding mathematical experience. Agi earned a B.A. in elementary education with a minor in mathematics and an M.A. in English as a second language, both from the University of Arizona.
