One of the best parts of applying for the Presidential Award was the opportunity it afforded me to reflect upon and improve my teaching. I am thankful to my family, colleagues, and the children I serve for their support and excitement about learning every day. I am honored to be recognized as part of this group of educators.

Each session included a high interest inquiry activity, a discussion about a career in science related to the activity, and a lesson about a scientist from a diverse background. Her work in this area was recognized by the North Kansas City Schools Education Foundation. She was recently awarded a grant to support this work entitled, "Seeing Yourself as a Scientist." In addition, she is a member of her school's Building Leadership Team, a teacher sponsor of the Diversity Council, and a member of the district science team.
