I am deeply humbled to be a recipient of the Presidential Award and honored to join this cadre of amazing educators across the nation. This award validates my journey of personal growth, purposeful reflection, and steadfast dedication to instill a love of mathematics in my students. It is my sincere hope to inspire them to pursue their goals with that same perseverance. Most importantly, I am grateful for the unwavering support from my students, colleagues, administrators, and family.

Nicolle Greene Warwick, RI | K-6, Mathematics, 2020

Nicolle "Nikki" Greene has been an elementary educator for 25 years with the Warwick Public Schools. For the last five years she has been a Math Interventionist at Holliman Elementary School. Prior to that she taught third grade and Special Education at E.G. Robertson Elementary School. Nicolle is passionate about helping her students love mathematics and see its relevance in their everyday lives. She works to ensure mathematics is presented in a context that is meaningful and engaging to her students, provides a classroom culture that promotes student engagement and discourse, and encourages mathematical thinking that meets the needs of all students which enables them to be successful learners in her classroom. Nicolle has made numerous contributions within her school and district by advocating for best practices, providing professional development support for colleagues, modeling lessons within the classroom, and serving as a member of school and district leadership teams. She also has been active within her state through various initiatives with the Rhode Island Department of Education and as president elect for the Rhode Island Mathematics Teachers Association (RIMTA). Most recently, Nicolle collaborated with Berkeley Everett, creator of Math Flips, to facilitate a session for RIMTA’s Annual Spring Conference. Nicolle earned a B.S. in elementary education/special education and a mathematics specialist certificate from Rhode Island College. She also earned an M.Ed. in reading/literacy from Providence College. In 2015, she was honored as Warwick's District Teacher of the Year. Nicolle is certified to teach elementary education, special education, and Reading education.
