I am deeply indebted to PAEMST for having received this distinction. This award signifies the importance of a robust science education for students of all ages. I am honored to be among fellow awardees who work collectively to advance the teaching profession and create a science-literate population needed for solving the world’s big problems. I am grateful to all who have inspired me to pursue my passion for personal and professional learning and my pursuit of excellence in science education.

Trudie Roberts West Hartford, CT | K-6, Science, 2000

Trudie Luck Roberts recently retired from 47 years in education. Throughout her career, she taught second through fifth grades in Indiana, Massachusetts, and Connecticut; served as Intervention Specialist in Pennsylvania; Curriculum Specialist in West Hartford; and culminated her calling as Elementary Principal in Ellington. Trudie was teaching fifth grade at Duffy Elementary School in West Hartford when she won PAEMST in 2000. She serves on review panels for PAEMST at the state and national levels and is currently serving in the role of PAEMST Alumni Representative for Connecticut. As a graduate of PALMS (Partnerships Advancing the Learning of Mathematics and Science) and PIMMS (Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Science), Trudie devoted many hours to advancing inquiry-based science learning at the elementary level. As Curriculum Specialist, she focused on science learning, worked on curriculum development to meet the CT State Standards and provided professional learning for teachers. For many years, Trudie taught integrated content in science, social studies, and the arts to pre-service teachers as adjunct faculty at the University of Hartford’s Alternate Route to Certification program. She continued her work with preservice teachers as mentor, trainer, and scorer for the BEST Portfolio program and the TEAM program toward teacher state certification. Further learning was pursued through the SEED Evaluation program and the NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). Trudie earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education from Ball State University, a Master of Liberal Studies in general science from Wesleyan University, and the 092 from Southern CT University. She maintains CT Certification in Elementary Education and Evaluation and Supervision.
