Lori Price has been an educator for more than 30 years and currently teaches first grade at Ocean Palms Elementary School. Previously, she spent eight years as a first grade teacher and mathematics coach at The Webster School, one year as teacher on assignment as a District Elementary Math Specialist, and five years as a first and second grade teacher at Mill Creek Elementary School. Before teaching in Florida, Lori taught for 19 years in Ohio at Loveland Primary, Goshen Intermediate, Amanda Elementary, and Burton Elementary Schools.
Lori is passionate about developing first grade mathematicians. She develops lessons which allow students to learn with and from each other. Students engage in tasks designed to develop conceptual understanding and then use that understanding to derive strategies for solving problems. Lori strives to inspire all students to see themselves as capable learners with important ideas.
Outside the classroom, Lori began a Primary Mathematicians Club where primary grade students engage in real world mathematics activities that show mathematics can be both useful and fun.
As the 2020 St. Johns County Teacher of the Year, Lori participated in the District Teacher Advisory Group and is a member of the Florida Math Standards Committee. She is the current president of the St. Johns County Elementary Math Council and leads the annual mathematics conference. She has presented on various topics at the state and national levels.
Lori earned a B.S. in education from Bowling Green State University. She is certified in elementary education and exceptional student education and holds endorsements in English Language Learners and Reading.
