Sharon Bowers was teaching seventh grade physical science at Kemps Landing Magnet School in Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) when she was recognized with the PAEMST Award. Ultimately, she spent more than 30 years in the classroom teaching kindergarten through eighth grade learners before she retired from VBCPS and moved to Blacksburg, VA, to earn her doctorate in Integrative STEM Education. Sharon is currently a Senior STEM Education Specialist and the Associate Director for the Center for Integrative STEM Education at the National Institute of Aerospace (CISE-NIA). In this position, Sharon and her teammates develop NASA eClips and other resources that model best practices in the use of instructional technology to support STEM education and professional learning experiences for educators. Sharon has developed and teaches graduate courses for McDaniel College that lead to a certificate in STEM Instructional Leadership. Sharon has co-authored several articles, most focusing on integrative STEM education for elementary educators. Most recently, she has been honored with the William E. Dugger Exemplary Collaboration Award. She has also received several honors from McDaniel College including an alumni Induction into Phi Beta Kappa, the Trustee Alumni Award, and Recognition for Exemplary Work in Chosen Field. Sharon earned her B.A. in biology and her M.Ed. in special education from McDaniel College. She holds her Ed.D. in Integrative STEM Education from Virginia Tech.
