Reginald Duncan Mascoutah, IL | K-6, Mathematics, 2016

Reginald Duncan has been an educator for 10 years and has spent the last three years teaching fifth grade mathematics and science at Wingate Elementary School. Previously, he taught third and fifth grade at Scott Elementary School near Scott Air Force Base. Reginald has facilitated professional development in workshops and conferences throughout Illinois. He has served as a consultant on various projects for the Illinois State Board of Education and has been featured in The Classroom Voices Video Project available on the Ed Leaders Network. As an Area Teacher Leader for the I-STEM project, he has implemented STEM lessons for his students featuring an engineer from the Illinois Department of Transportation as a guest professor. In his classroom, students attend to precision in mathematical language as he facilitates discourse promoting productive struggle and a growth mindset. Reginald serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics and as a facilitator for INTEL Math, a nationally recognized professional development program in conjunction with Change the Equation—a coalition that seeks to raise STEM literacy for students across the U.S. Reginald earned a B.A. in liberal arts from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and a M.A.Ed in elementary education from McKendree University. He is a certified elementary school teacher.
