Susan Bauer has been an educator for 18 years and has spent the last 16 years teaching sixth grade science at Eyer Middle School in the East Penn School District. Real-world applicability, hands-on experiences, and technology integration are essential components of Susan’s science instruction. She provides innovative opportunities for students to experience science. Susan’s passion for science led her to codevelop the sixth grade science curriculum. She offered professional development opportunities for colleagues to enhance curriculum goals, which featured a guest professor from Lehigh University to assist with the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics lessons. Susan had the privilege of collaborating with Lehigh University in codeveloping a program for sixth grade students to learn about nanotechnology and remote microscopy. Students utilized their problem-solving skills, a team approach, and their newly acquired knowledge of nanotechnology to develop innovative methods for the remediation of polluted groundwater in the Lehigh Gap. Susan has a B.A. in education from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.Ed. in school counseling from Kutztown University. She is a certified elementary school teacher as well as being certified in school counseling.
