The official biography below was current at the time of the award.
Julie Hammari has been an educator for 10 years and has spent the last 6 years teaching sixth grade at East Meadows Elementary School. Previously, she taught third and fifth grade at her current school and at Canyon Elementary School.
Participation in multiple science workshops has helped shape Julie’s teaching style. Julie uses inquiry-based science lessons because she believes that students should question things rather than just go through a textbook. Many lessons have been created based on a student’s inquisitive mind. Julie enjoys developing a science curriculum that relates to the real world and planning science-based field trips for her grade level.
Julie also mentors other teachers in her school and district in understanding and teaching mathematics and science concepts. She participated in a Utah Sixth Grade Math Common Core Committee, which led to helping with workshops and trainings in her school district.
Julie involves parents with their children’s learning by providing access to class notes and events through a blog, e-mail, and notes that are sent home.
Julie has a B.S. in elementary education from Brigham Young University and an M.Ed. from Southern Utah University. She is a certified elementary teacher and is endorsed in elementary mathematics and English as a second language.
