Being considered for the PAEMST award is a humbling and distinct honor that affords me an opportunity to reflect on my work and acknowledge the outstanding educators, administrators, students, and community members who saw the potential for success in me. Jessica Findlay Douglas, MA | K-6, Mathematics, 2012

Jessica Findlay has taught mathematics at Douglas Intermediate Elementary School for 7 years, teaching both fifth and sixth grade. She is the K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Team Chair, leading colleagues as they share best practices and plan integrated, engaging learning experiences. Her enthusiasm and creativity have led to the creation of events such as Pi Day and a schoolwide Math-a-Thon to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, with more than $53,000 raised to date. Jessica’s love of teaching goes beyond the school day. She has been a LEGO Robotics Coach since 2006, guiding students as they design and program robots to compete in tournaments. In 2010, Jessica was selected as 1 of 16 teachers nationwide for a 2-week internship at NASA’s Langley Research Facility in Hampton, VA. In 2011, she was honored by the Raytheon Corporation’s MathMovesU program as a Massachusetts Math Hero. Jessica is dedicated to the incorporation of technology to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. She currently partners with Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s STEM Integration for District Leaders program. Jessica has a B.A., summa cum laude, in elementary education from Rhode Island College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in STEM education from Framingham State University. She is certified in elementary education and middle school mathematics.
