Georgia Boatman was nominated while she was employed with the Kennewick School District (KSD), where she most recently taught second grade at Amistad Elementary School. She is now the Regional Science Coordinator for Southeastern Washington at Educational Service District 123 where she provides professional development in science education. She works with 23 school districts and various statewide initiatives. Mrs. Boatman focused her literacy skills awareness and experience with students on helping K-12 teachers understand the use of science as a partner for reading, writing, and mathematics. She has shared her expertise about scientific journaling, formative assessment, and best instructional practices with staff throughout the Kennewick School District, Southeastern Washington, and the State of Washington. Mrs. Boatman was a member of the District Science Advisory Committee in Kennewick, one of many leadership positions that she has held, not only at the district level but at the regional and state levels. She was a member of the KSD Science Curriculum Topics Study Team and is a member of the State Science Assessment Leadership Team and the Science Advisory Panel for the Washington State Board of Education. When KSD adopted an inquiry-based, hands-on science curriculum eight years ago, Mrs. Boatman became a trainer for the use of this kit-based science curriculum. She continues to fill this role as a certified trainer for teachers throughout the State. Mrs. Boatman has a B.S.Ed. in elementary education and special education and an M.Ed. in special education from the University of Idaho. She is certified in K-12 special education and K-8 elementary education. She is also a National Board Certified Middle Childhood Generalist.
