Michael Flynn teaches second grade at the William E. Norris Elementary School. He was the 2008 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year and a recipient of a 2009 National Education Association/Horace Mann Award for Teaching Excellence. Over the course of his 13 years of teaching, Michael has worked to help his students build their conceptual understanding of mathematics through engaging lessons for all learners. Michael develops and leads workshops throughout Massachusetts and across the country in the areas of mathematics, science, and technology. He works for TERC as an Investigations Workshop Leader, training teachers in the implementation of the Investigations in Number, Data, and Space curriculum. He is a contributing author to various books and curriculum materials with a focus on mathematics instruction and is currently publishing his own book on meaningful mathematics instruction in the primary grades. Michael’s teaching is also featured in various video series used for professional development. Michael has a B.S.E. from Westfield State University and an M.Ed. from Lesley University. He is currently working on his doctorate in education at Walden University. He is certified in elementary education.
