The official biography below was current at the time of the award.

Andrea Broyles has been an educator for 14 years and has spent the last 7 years teaching fourth grade science at Corbin Elementary School. She wants to instill a love of exploration in her students, and for them to view themselves as scientists in training. This is demonstrated through her active role as a summer science camp instructor and in the implementation of Science Day at her school. Seeking out professional development has been an important part of Andrea's career, and she has devoted hundreds of hours to this. She recently participated in the Phil Mickelson ExxonMobil Teacher Academy in New York. She studied standards-based content in physics, inquiry, and integration of mathematics into science. She has also traveled to Puerto Rico to study with marine biologists, where she developed lessons. Because of Andrea's dedication, she has been awarded the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence and Science Teacher of the Year awards. Andrea has a B.S. and an M.A. in elementary education with an emphasis in science and an M.A. in educational leadership from Murray State University. She holds certifications for elementary teaching, supervision of instruction, principal, and director of pupil personnel.
