Alysia Durham, a 13 year educator, began her career in education as a mathematics teacher at P.A.S.S. Academy. From there, she taught one year at New Brockton High School before moving to Fort Campbell High School (FCHS) where she recently completed her 12th year. Currently, Alysia serves as a 6–12 mathematics instructional systems specialist for the DoDEA Americas Southeast Kentucky Community. Alysia previously taught seventh and eighth grade mathematics, algebra, geometry, and coursework in Advanced Quantitative Reasoning, and Financial Literacy. Alysia also worked as a K–9 mathematics intervention specialist for the Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 during a one-year Permanent Change of Station. Alysia focuses on continuously improving her instruction to provide students with real-world experiences incorporating hands-on and technology-enhanced lessons. She believes in building students’ mathematical confidence by instilling a growth mindset within all students. At FCHS, Alysia was a member of the professional learning community, chair of the continuous school improvement team, STEM, and the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) team. Her leadership positions include Mathematics Department Chair. Alysia has facilitated professional development around school improvement, goal setting, and data analysis. Alysia earned a B.S. in secondary mathematics from Buffalo State University, a M.B.A. from Troy University, an Ed.S. in administration from Austin Peay State University, and an Ed.D. in school reform from Union University. She is certified in secondary mathematics 7–12, business education, Educational Technologist, and Educational Leadership/Administration. Alysia was recently named the 2020 DoDEA Americas Southeast District Teacher of the Year.
