With humble gratitude, I am honored to receive the Presidential Award. It is a validation of the importance of instilling a love of learning in all students, inspiring students’ development of critical thinking skills, and ultimately preparing students to be positive, contributing members of the world community. My career has been dedicated to each of these pursuits. This award was made possible by the support and encouragement of my family, students, leaders, and educators.

Kristina Kaly Salt Lake City, UT | K-6, Science, 2016

Kristina Kaly has taught in the Salt Lake City School District (SLCSD) for eight years. She spent six years teaching at Rose Park Elementary School, and is currently a SLCSD Science Coach. Kristina is passionate about integrating science, outdoor education, and environmental stewardship. Her students served as stewards of a local river by collecting and analyzing water quality data. As a coach, she shares her knowledge and passion by facilitating professional development, developing curriculum, and assisting teachers with evidence-based instructional strategies. She has contributed to the educational community by co-teaching college level Science Methods and Math Methods classes. She has also worked as an educational consultant for the University of Utah and served as a SLCSD mentor teacher. Kristina received the Utah Water Watch Volunteer of the Year Award, SLCSD Highly Effective Math Teaching Award, SLCSD Fifth Grade Team Award, University of Utah Art and Science Integration grant, and the iUTAH grant. Kristina earned a B.S., cum laude, in environmental studies from the University of Utah and a M.A.T. from Westminster College. She is certified in first through eight grade elementary education. Her recent professional development activities include the Keystone Science School Educator Program, NOAA Climate Change Educator Workshop, and Utah Science Leadership Conference.
