Adam Maitland, an educator of eight years, started his career at Edgemont Elementary School. He then worked at Sarah Moore Green Magnet Academy and next at Ball Camp Elementary School. He currently works as a special education teacher at Christenberry Elementary School. Through his knowledge of reading, mathematics, and science content, Adam has facilitated professional development sessions at the school and district level focusing on using data to drive small group instruction, using STEM projects aligned to reading resources, and different strategies for teaching whole and small group mathematics. Adam also facilitated as a regional learning coach, presenting at the Summit Reading Training on incorporating thematic units in the classroom. As a recipient of many grants, Adam incorporated the Engineering in Elementary curriculum in his classroom, teaching students about current science standards and working to solve challenges. He also worked to set his classroom up as a 1:1 technology room, with each student having access to their own chrome book. Adam earned an A.S. in early childhood education from Lane Community College and a B.A. in elementary education from Pacific University. He also earned his master’s in special education from Pacific University. He is certified in kindergarten through eighth grade general education and K-12 special education.
